Dr. Lambros Mitropoulos holds a B.Eng and aM.Sc in Civil Engineering from the University of Brighton, 2005; and a M.Sc in Transport from the Imperial College and the University College of London, 2006. He received his Ph.D in Transportation Planning from the University of Hawai’i, Manoa in 2011. Prior to joining TTLog at the University of Thessaly, Dr. Mitropoulos held a postdoctoral research position at the University of Hawaii, where he worked on traffic forecasting and sustainable transportation of urban systems. He continued his career as a Research associate at the Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT), Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) where he participated in European and Hellenic funded research projects. He has also worked in transportation projects which were funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Hawai’i Department of Transportation (HDOT); he also served as a consultant for major transportation infrastructure projects. Dr. Mitropoulos has awarded the PIARC 2011 First Prize for Sustainable DevelopmentPaper and has published in several professional journals. Dr. Mitropoulos was president of the student chapter of ITE at the University of Hawaii and member of ITE, ASCE and SAE. His areas of research interest include sustainable transportation, sustainability assessment, urban transportation, public transit, alternative fuels, innovative mobility measures, road safety and decision making.
