Ioannis Karakikes

Research Associate

Ioannis D. Karakikes graduated from the School of Engineering of University of Thessaly, Department of Civil Engineering in 2012. In 2015 he obtained his M.Sc. in Transportation Systems from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) with specialization in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

During his M.Sc. studies he worked as a Research Assistant at the chair of Traffic Engineering and Control of TUM, as well as a Graduate Research Assistant at PSLV GmbH, a transport planning company in Munich. During that time, he took part in two research projects regarding the simulation and calibration of a highway network system in Bavaria, and the processing and correcting of data exported from vehicles’ trajectories in the central area of Munich. He also conducted a number of studies including data collection with the use of ANPRs and Bluetooth devices and simulation of German transport networks.

Currently, Ioannis is a research associate of the Traffic, Transportation and Logistics Laboratory (TTLog), PhD student of the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Thessaly and PhD scholar of the Greek State Scholarships Foundation (IKY). His research activities focus on city logistics, micro- and macro- simulation of transportation networks, ITS and transportation planning. He has in his record more than 30 scientific papers published in journals and conference proceedings and he has been the co-editor of 2 books.
