Giannis Adamos

Adjunct Lecturer - Research Associate

Dr. Giannis Adamos was born in Volos, Greece. He graduated from the School of Engineering of University of Thessaly, Department of Civil Engineering in 2004. In 2006, he acquired his MSc diploma in Applied Engineering and Systems Simulation and, in 2016, his PhD in Transportation Engineering from the Department of Civil Engineering of University of Thessaly (UTH). Currently, he is an Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering (UTH) and at the Department of Planning and Regional Development (UTH). He is also a Postdoctoral Researcher in the research field of sustainable design of transport systems and infrastructure.

Since 2006, Dr. Adamos is a research associate at the Traffic, Transportation and Logistics Laboratory of the University of Thessaly. From 2010 to 2015 he worked as a research associate at the Hellenic Institute of Transport of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas in Thessaloniki, Greece, and from 2008 to 2011 he was a lecturer at the Technological Educational Institute of Larisa, Greece.

He has participated in more than 25 research projects, mainly financed by the European Commission and national resources. A shortlist of these projects includes: “ALLIANCE – Enhancing excellence and innovation capacity in sustainable transport interchanges”, Coordination and Support Action under HORIZON 2020, European Commission (2016-2018), “NOVELOG – New cooperative business models and guidance for sustainable city logistics”, Research and Innovation Action under HORIZON 2020, European Commission (2015-2018), “City-HUB”, Collaborative project under the 7th Framework Cooperation Work Programme Sustainable Surface Transport, Theme: Innovative design and operation of new or upgraded efficient urban transport, European Commission (2012-2015), “CLOSER – Connecting long and short-distance networks for efficient transport”, project co-funded by the European Commission within the 7th Framework Programme (2010-2012), “International scientific study on Transport Corridor Management as part of the project Bothnian Green Logistics Corridor”, co-funded by EU, ERDF, ENPI (2013), “Promoting driving awareness and safe driving at local level in the cross-border area Greece – Bulgaria – PROMO SAFE DRIVING”, European Territorial Cooperation Program Greece – Bulgaria (2007-2013), “Integrated road safety systems with the application of advanced driver monitoring, warning and information technologies”, Genereal Secretariat for Research and Technology, Hellenic Ministry of Development (2008-2009), and “Campaigns and awareness-raising strategies in traffic safety”, Specific targeted research project (STREP), 6th Framework Programme (2006-2009).

Also, Dr. Adamos was a substitute member of the Management Committee of the TUD COST Action TU1305: Social networks and travel behavior” (2014-2018) and member of the Technical Chamber of Greece, the Association of Civil Engineers of Greece, the Association of Transportation Engineers of Greece, the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), the ITE Transportation Safety Council, the ITE Transportation Education Council and the Association for European Transport. He has participated in numerous national and international scientific conferences and workshops and he has in his record more than 100 scientific papers published in journals and conference proceedings and chapters in 6 books.
